In the Cycling museum there is a room with precious cycling souvenirs dedicated to the once so popular inhabitant of Roeselare: Jean-Pierre – Jempi – Monseré, a man who, even after all these years, still stirs great emotion.
At his 21, he became world champion, a new cycling idol, ready to fight against Merckx. Barely nine months later he was killed, wearing the rainbow jersey, in a cycle race in Retie. An idol was gone, a legend was born. Who was he ? What did he mean for Roeselare and Belgian cycling ?
