“Cycling is Flanders and Flanders is cycling.” No sport has become more interwoven with our national character than cycling. Cycling heroes often left their mark on the spirit of ages. Throughout the Cycling museum you will be introduced to the biggest cycling champions, from pioneers Cyriel Van Hauwaert and Odiel Defraeye to Briek Schotte and Rik Van Steenbergen, from Rik Van Looy to Eddy Merckx, from Johan Museeuw to Philippe Gilbert and the current cyclo-cross world champions.
In the Wiemu you will enjoy or re-enjoy the biggest moments in the history of Belgian cycling: from Briek, Rik and Rik, the cannibal to Tom Tommeke, Tommeke, Tommeke, what are you doing? - Boonen in Madrid, from ‘Museeuw becomes world champion’ to the tears of Eddy Bosberg. We also pay attention to the whole culture around cycling such as the many cycling fans along the road, the clubs, a collection of cycling poetry and the story of our “Flandriens”.
