WieMu, the national cycling museum

-----

Trying to capture something so vast and dynamic as the world of cycling between the four walls of a museum is no sinecure. Located in Roeselare, at the heart of West Flanders, a region famous for producing some of the finest cyclists Flanders, Belgium and the world has ever seen, the cycling museum or ‘WieMu’ presents a dazzling story. One could say this is where the heart of the ‘Flandrien’ beats.

The museum is the place to go for those who are passionate about cycling. Throughout its collections, activities and exhibitions, the WieMu tells a story of heroism, determination and suffering. The museum is more than just a gallery. It’s above all a research center looking for new insights and knowledge on Flanders’ social history, culture and the evolution of cycling sports. Be prepared to be taken on a journey through the history of bike, of cycling and that unique Flemish cycling culture.

Discover the bikes used by Stijn Devolder (2008) and Jules Vanhevel (1920) to win the Tour of Flanders or the museum unique collection of ‘vélocipèdes’. Visit the WieMu shop to discover cycling books and (retro) shirts, or lose yourself in the rich archive and documentation centre and a jukebox with old cycling records. It’s the best place to get to know what it means to be a Flandrien.
